SEIU members endorse Val Hoyle for Commissioner of Labor & Industries

SEIU is proud to endorse Val Hoyle for Oregon Commissioner of Labor & Industries. Val is a true champion for working people who shares our union’s values.

A note from Val:

Growing up in a family with union roots that go back three generations, I developed values that have guided me throughout my life. My grandfather helped start the Laborers union in New York because he saw too many of his fellow workers dying in construction accidents. My father was a union firefighter. In my first job, I was lucky to be a member of UNITE HERE Local 26.

In the Oregon Legislature, I worked alongside SEIU members to win paid sick leave and increase the minimum wage. Together, we pushed for big investments in career and technical education to better prepare the next generation for tomorrow’s job market.

After 30 years of advocating for working people, better jobs and civil rights, I’m ready to lead those fights as Oregon’s next Commissioner of Labor & Industries.
